Split the class into groups of approx 6-8. Set up 9 hula hoops in a square (3 by 3). This is a grid for two teams.
If more than two teams in the class, set up another grid so more than one game can go at a time.
5 metres away from the grid, two teams are lined up behind 2 cones.
Each team has 3 of the same coloured bean bags, and are working together to get their bean bags in a row before the other team (like noughts and crosses).
The first person behind the cone for each team will run up to the grid with their beanbag, and place it down in a hoop. There is only ONE beanbag aloud per hoop (if both teams choose the same hoop, the person who threw it down last must move it to another hoop).
Once they've placed their beanbag in an empty hoop, they run back to their team and tag the next person in line. The next person repeats this, and places their bean bag in an empty hoop.
If all three beanbags from one team are down in the grid and there has been no successful three-in-a-row's, the next person in line is aloud to MOVE one of THEIR beanbags to a new hoop. This carries on until one team gets three in a row first.
Successful three in a rows can be up, down, sideways or diagonal.
Progression:
Each round coaches can change the way the player can run up to the grid. For example, runnning forward, backward, side step, skipping etc.
NOTE: this can also be used as an indoor game. Replace hoops with a grid drawn on white board (or large piece of paper). Each group must mark 'x' or 'o' instead of placing beanbag down.
