what parts of the foot did we try dribbling with today? why is it important to keep the ball close to your body? why do we need to keep our head up?
Each student will be given a ball inside a designated area. The aim is for students to move with thier ball in the area with control, demonstrating many different ways of dribbling.
Round 1: Students move using as many different parts of their foot as possible.
Round 2: Same as round 1, except this time on the coaches whistle students will complete 5 toe taps before continuing with dribbling.
Round 3: Same as round 1, except this time on the coaches whistle students will complete 5 shuffling the ball (inside foot touches) before continuing with dribbling.
Round 4: Same as round 1, except this time on the coaches whistle students will complete 5 step overs (foot going around the ball without touching)before continuing with dribbling.
Round 5: Students will have a go at putting the 3 skills together to create a combination on the spot. eg,Tap,Tap, Step over, Step over, Shuffle, Shuffle
Teaching points: Keep ball close to body (small touches on the ball) for better control, keep the ball moving, challenge the students to keep their head up so they can see whats going on around them.
Make playing area bigger or smaller
Make playing area bigger or smaller, use hands to stop the ball.
Put Students into groups of 4 or 5 so there will be 3 games running. Each game there will be two teams, one team being the attcking team the other team being the dending team. After 5 or so minutes the teams will switch roles so everyone will get a turn at attacking & defending.
There will be 3 gateways set up for the attckers to either run or dribble through (they only need to go through one gateway) . if attackers are successfull and go through the gateway they will score a point for their team or If the defending team manages to make a tag on the attacking team they will score a point for their team. players go one at a time from each team and after their turn they will go to the back of their teams line.
Round 1: Both teams without a ball, attackers run through a gateway, defender tries to tag attacker.
Round 2: Both teams with a ball, attackers dribble through a gateway, defender tries to tag attacker whilst dribbling thier own ball.
Round 3: Only attackers with a ball, attackers dribble through a gateway, defender tries to tackle attacker and take their ball.
Teaching Points: Dribble with control & speed, ask students to be creative and show skills to get past the defender. Ask the attackers to dribble whilst keeping their head up so they can see the space to dribble into. Ask defenders to keep their eye on the ball and move closer to the attacker to close the space between them and the attckers.
Make playing Area bigger or Smaller, have more attackers going at a time, have more defenders going at a time.
throw or kick a ball through a gateway instead of dribbling it. have a helper.
Put students into teams of 3 or 4. Set up 6 Mini games with one goal at the end of each playing area. The playing area will depend on how much space you have but try aim to make each game area 15 metres length and 10 metres width. There will be no goal keepers to begin with as the goals will be small (3 metres). When the ball goes out of play rather than taking a throw in, the players must pass to a team mate instead. If the ball goes out for goal kick or a team has scored then that team must retreat back to their half so it gives the other team a chance to play forward with no pressure.
The students will now get a chance to put the skills they have worked on into a game like situation, games with smaller numbers mean more involvment. They will play 5 minute games before playing against a new team.
Can add in rules such as: must complete 2 passes before scoring, if a team completes 5 passes it counts as a goal, add goal keepers in, etc.
