What are the different types of balances that we did? What was your favourite balance to perform? What are some things that you can do to help you balance? (put your arms out)
One child is designated to be the "Granny". The rest of the children stand in a line and the granny stands roughly 20 metres away from the line of children. When the granny is turned away the children sneak up on the granny but when the granny is facing the children, they must freeze in a balanced position. If a child is seen not balancing by the granny then they must go back to the start. The first child to reach the granny and tag them becomes the new granny.
Picture cards are made that have pictures of people doing different types of balances on each card. Spots are placed out within a given area and a picture card is placed underneath each spot. Children move around the area performing different movements and when a whistle is blown they must go to a spot and copy the balance shown on the corresponding card for 10 seconds. They then must move around again until the whistle is blown at which point they move to spot they haven't yet been at.
All players spread out into a defined space. One or two children are taggers and the rest are runners. Taggers try to tag the runners. If tagged, a runner becomes 'stuck in the mud' and holds a static balance (e.g. straddle, scale balance, front support) until released. To release a stuck child, a free runner must crawl under, step over or run around them, with the movement depending on the stuck runner's static position.
