The students will pair up and line up opposite their partner - or find space for them and their partner, if their is no lines you can use the spots to make a designated area for the following activity "pass and move". The coach goes over the passing technique for a:
Chest pass; make the letter W with your hands on the ball, start with the ball positioned in front of chest, step into pass, flat pass to your partners chest and finish in superman position pointing toward your target/partner.
Bounce pass. The coach will then go over the passing technique for a bounce pass; coming from the hip, bouncing on the ground 2/3 of the distance, ball staying low.
Lob pass, (a high pass used to lift the ball over the arms of the defending players.) Teaching points: Start movement from the shoulder, Short back movement, One handed high release and follow through in direction of pass with wrist/fingers
Progressions:
Catch two-handed
Catch one-handed (practice with each hand)
Pass one-handed, overarm (practice with each hand)
Pass to where receiver will be, not where s/he is
Round 1: See how many passes can be completed in 20 seconds (without dropping the ball).
Round 2: First to 20 passes, pair must put the ball above their head when finished.
Tips: These passes are similar to netball and basketball. Depending on prior experience, instruction on technique may be necessary.
