Set up a number of gateways by placing two cones of the same colour about a metre apart. Students pair up and stand on either side of the gateway. One of those students will have a soccer ball. The students will practice passing the ball through the gateway to their partner. When passing the ball the student needs to use the inside of their foot. The student on the other side of the gateway needs to trap the ball, by placing their foot on top of the ball to get it to come to a complete stop. They then pass the ball back to their partner. Once 5 passes have been completed through the gateway, the student with the ball will dribble it to another gateway that is free.
Key points:
- when kicking the ball to their partner they need to use the inside of their foot
- the ball must be trapped, by placing their foot on top of the ball, before they pass the ball back to their partner
- at no point in this activity are the students to use their hands on the ball
Make the gateways wider to make it easier or narrower to make it harder. Complete 3, 5 or 7 passes however it does need to be an odd number to alternate who dribbles to the next gateway
Use a bigger / softer ball.
